October 3,5,10,12,17. Citizen’s Academy: Awareness and Hands-On Training Sessions. Opportunity to get a first-hand, inside look at what our emergency workers do. Each 2-hour session begins at 6 pm at the fire hall and includes a light meal. October 15-21. National Friends of Libraries Week. Administration and trustees of the Lied Imperial Public Library give the friends of our library a big shout out for all they do to make a difference for us every single day.

October 16. Cancer Support Group, Chase County Community Hospital, Conference room downstairs, 4 pm. All cancer survivors, caregivers, family and friends are invited to help support those in need. This program is free to the public. Third Monday of the month through May 2018. Meetings are confidential.

October 20. National Mammography DayReminder to all women that the best defense is early detection. A mammogram can often detect a problem before there is any outward physical sign. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Five medical students embark on an experiment: by stopping their hearts for short periods, each triggers a near-death experience, giving them a firsthand account of the afterlife.
