August 9. Rotary Satellite Club Information Meeting in Palisade at Sodtown Sundries, 103 N. Main Street, noon central time. For men and women wishing to build leadership skills and increase professional relationships while participating in both local and international service projects. August 14. V-J Day (Victory over Japan). On this day in 1945, the Imperial Government of Japan agreed to surrender, marking the end of WWII.

August 16-18. Lion’s Club Bingo at the Fair. Time slots are available each afternoon and evening for community volunteers at their Lions Club Bingo stand. Help your local Lions Club, enjoy an appreciation dinner in September. Phone Larry Radcliffe to sign up.

August 18-20. NO MOVIES. Imperial Theatre and Wauneta Chateau Theater closed for the fair.

August 21. Total Solar Eclipse. See eclipse2017.org/2017/states/NE.htm for a map of the cities in Nebraska where you’ll have the best view. Limited supply of eclipse-viewing glasses available at Lied Public Library.

August 25-27. MOVIE: Dunkirk. Drama/Thriller. Rated PG-13. Story of amazing May 1940 evacuation of 330,000 British, Belgian, and Dutch soldiers from the beaches of Dunkirk after the advance of German troops into France.
